Fantastic article! Not only well-written and on-the-nose, but it strikes an important – and sadly oft overlooked – facet of not just Calgarian culture, but much of today’s society at large. Tinkerers, makers and the like are often valued only when they a) contribute something of significance – subjectively so – to the benefit of many, or b) are paid to create, even if what they create is neither groundbreaking or for the greater good.

Too many people bury or ignore the creative impulse because they see the end result as undervalued or unappreciated, or they simply can’t accept that their ideas and passions have worth – whether through skewed societal aspirations, indoctrination or lack of support. And that's one of the most prominent tenants of Protospace I've witnessed – drawing out, inspiring, encouraging and galvanizing all forms of creativity, be they great or small.

Yay! Thanks for the great comment Thomas. Even through your slow and far away internet connection, you're still a huge part of the community, we're talking about you all the time.

As a happy update from the original post, we've had some amazing responses and support so far. HUGE help, but we're not totally out of the woods yet. So keep spreading the word, cheering us on, and if you've got a lead for funding let us know. Getting through the next few months is gonna be tight, but you can help us pull it off!

Thank you all so much! Your response has made all the work of rebooting Protospace SO worth it!

I'm very proud of how far along Protospace has come in the last 6 months, although sad that I can only enjoy it through my slow internet connection in India!

But good news everyone! I'm home for the holidays and will be at the shiney new space next Tuesday with cash donation in hand!

Protospace holds a special place in my geek heart and to see this community thrive in Calgary fills that heart full of win!!1! Who doesnt want a grown up play ground full of machines to build your crazy ideas at a whim?!

Having the honor to sit on the board for Protospace in the previous term, I know how challenging that job can be! The wonderful people that are guiding that ship today are amazingly dedicated and have accomplished so much for the community it is approaching epic! I'm convinced that your donations and commitments to Protospace are in great hands and will pay dividens ten fold for you and the community!

So let your inner mad scientist come out and play! Protospace - for the win.
